GALA is a concept tv show exploring world celebrations. The brief was to create a television channel or programme relating to the arts and culture, and design a brand around it.
With an interest in travel and world culture I wanted to create a show that would consider how different countries and regions come together to celebrate their cultures. Each episode would explore a different celebration, with Carnival in Rio De Janeiro introducing the series.

The name Gala seemed an appropriate choice for the show as its definition literally means 'a social occasion with special entertainments or performances'. The show is targeted towards a younger age group so bright colours and bold shapes are used to draw in this audience.
After designing and animating the logo I developed the brand to work across other platforms including an Instagram post and story; posters and various merchandise that could be bought by fans of the show.

Original logo development
(black & white)
(black & white)
By using simple geometric shapes, I was able to build letterforms that denote to the variety of people coming together to celebrate something beautiful.
Colour development
It was an obvious choice to use bright and bold colours as this is about celebration, so the brand needed to exude effervescence.
Typography study
Experimentation with typefaces to find a pairing with the logo.
